Minutes of the Bolton Tennis League Committee meeting held at 7pm on  Friday 13th June 2025 at Lostock Tennis Club.

Present: Messrs. Al-Chalabi, Cashmore, Caswell, Maslivec, Pearson, Nuttall, Smith, Taylor, Ms L Cartwright, Ms K Caldwell, S Francis, Ms B Holmes, Ms J Holmes & Ms Perry.

Apologies for absence: Messrs. Smith & Saunders, Ms Morley & Mrs V Browne.

Minutes of the last meeting: These had been circulated and were agreed.

Matters Arising: None

Correspondence: None other than in league reports.

General Secretary: It was pointed out that match cards over 3 years old are to be deleted. It was agreed to delete all from 2021.

League Reports:

Men’s League: All was running smoothly apart from the fact that there was an extremely long email complaining about the playing conditions at a club and questioning whether the rules had been applied correctly both by Committee members and the club in question. Despite the strained and dubious circumstances, the Committee agreed that the result should stand. It was agreed that, despite the good intentions of trying to get a match played, a rule had been applied incorrectly by the Committee. Also, the club itself had not applied a new rule that came in this season.
The Match Secretary and two others would draft a reply. Reminders would be in the newsletter.

Mixed League: Received 15.55 on the day of the meeting.
There are no issues with the mixed! The only rule violations that we’ve seen are unregistered players, which is to be expected. All have been resolved. I think there was also an absent player violation, which has also been dealt with. I’ve been in touch with DL Chorley and Worsley about providing starred players now that the first 4 matches are completed. All other teams have provided Mixed Starred players on the registration list.
The new system is amazing, makes everything so much easier and lets both me and Sue see what each other are doing a bit more, so huge thanks to Paul!! 😊 Next round of the Cecil Cup is in a couple of weeks so handicaps will be given a few days before!

Ladies League: We had a report alleging that two 14-year-old juniors were verbally abused by a senior opposition player. This had been referred to the club in question, but the reply did not contain enough information to satisfy the Committee. It had been referred back, asking for further details.

Junior League: Clarification was sought under the circumstances when a boy can play both as a girl in one match, but as a boy in another re the team they are assigned to. The rules did not seem to cover this, so we may need a rule change or addition for next season.

Winter League: Nothing to report.

Treasurer: Not much to report from a finance side. Everything is just ticking over.

Tournament: Entries are trickling in. The junior entry is low and at the moment, it looks like the under-14 boys will be the only junior event to run.
With handicap events, we would like them to be registered players with an existing playing record. If there is no record, we need someone to vouch as to their playing standard. Mention in the newsletter.

Presentation Evening: We still need a presenter. A suggestion was made, which will be followed up.

Dunlop: A number of people had complained about the ball quality this year. This will be followed up with Dunlop.

LTA Network: Nothing to report.
